Rob Halford is a little monster

Rob Halford, a.k.a. the Metal God, fronts one of the most influential heavy-metal bands on the scene. Along with his Judas Priest bandmates, the leather-favoring singer spends most of his time on the road fraternizing with metal legends like Ozzy Osbourne, Mötley Crüe and Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister. Halford even runs a clothing line that specializes in badass-looking T-shirts. But what fans might not know is that he also keeps a finger on the pulse of the pop world, and one of his latest heroes is Lady Gaga.
“She’s exactly what we need right now in that area of music,” Halford told MTV News. “There has been a vacuum that’s been created in that area as the wonderful Saint Madonna has gotten older, and we really need somebody like Lady Gaga to shake things up again.”
Halford said he admires Lady Gaga’s irreverence, but also her colorful fashion sense (“That costume of meat she wore at the MTV Music Awards was just fantastic”), her outspokenness and her willingness to deliver politically charged messages. He was especially moved by Gaga’s speech at a Portland, Maine, rally organized by the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network as part of the movement to repeal the U.S. military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy.
“I thought that was very admirable,” Halford said. “Madonna went a little bit in the activist vein, but she did that later on in her career. What you’re finding in Lady Gaga, I feel, is a microcosm of the speed of life we’re living in now. Things happen so quickly. She took off like a rocket. [Interscope Chairman] Jimmy Iovine put the whole label behind her and wrote the checks for those multimillion-dollar videos because he has this incredible foresight, and it was absolutely the right move. She’s incredible and provocative and I admire her as the person she is and all the great things she does.”
Still, like many Gaga fans, he’s occasionally surprised by his pop heroine. Halford, whose Halford IV — Made of Metal hit stores this week, admitted he was somewhat taken aback by the ‘Fame” singer’s wardrobe choice in Maine. The Lady wore a conservative blue pantsuit, white collared shirt and patterned men’s tie, but what really caught Halford’s attention were Gaga’s massively oversize Coke-bottle glasses.
“I don’t know if she’s got really bad eyesight or if it was just another moment,” Halford said. “But I love that she believes all people are beautiful, which they are. How dare you call somebody ugly. That’s just abhorrent to me. She sends this message out to her fans and the world that’s really positive and I just wish her a long life, which is going to be difficult in today’s speed-of-light culture.”

New Statesman Magazine: This is Gaga’s trick

When does a star become an icon? The moment she passes the six million mark on Twitter? The day she is nominated for six Grammy Awards? Or the month (August 2010) in which it is calculated she has sold more than 15 million albums and 51 million singles worldwide? Lady Gaga has done all these things.
But that’s not it. In her own words: “God put me on earth for three reasons: to make loud music, gay videos and cause a damn ruckus.” Ah, the ruckus. It has become the Gaga art form, most recently seen in the shape of a dress made of raw meat that she wore to the MTV Video Music Awards, provoking outrage and uproar in equal measure (“What does Lady Gaga’s meat dress mean?” asked the BBC).
Gaga is used to such reactions: the world attends her every theatrical move, from the live routine that left her blood-soaked and ailing onstage to the red leather Elizabeth I dress that she wore to meet the Queen at the Royal Variety Show last year. And yet, while some say she redefines empty exhibitionism, her army of obsessed fans – whom she calls her “Little Monsters” – surge to her defence.
This is Gaga’s trick. While she is mainstream enough to sell huge quantities of records and duet with Beyoncé (on the nine-minute song “Telephone”, whose video features prison bondage and lesbian kisses), she has established herself as an ambassador for the marginalised, the lonely, the misunderstood. It’s a lucrative market.
There’s a limitless supply of alienated teenagers willing to sign up to a life of Gaga worship, especially since she tattooed her love for them on her arm (near another of her tattoos, from Rilke: “In the deepest hour of the night, confess to yourself that you would die if you were forbidden to write. And look deep into your heart where it spreads its roots, the answer, and ask yourself: must I write?”) But she was not always Gaga.
Born in New York City in 1986, Stefani Germanotta went to a private Catholic school on the Upper East Side, although she says her parents were from “lower-class families”. She was always, she says, an outsider, but a dorm-mate at New York University remembers her as “a very suburban, preppy, friendly, social party girl”.
The name “Lady Gaga” was born of a misspelt text by her then collaborator and producer, Rob Fusari (who tried to sue Gaga, saying she failed to pay him royalties for songs that he had co-written) – yet a New York Post profile claimed it was concocted by music industry executives.
This, too, is Gaga: a myth. The comparison is often made with Madonna – Gaga has inherited her mantle of Catholic-girl-turned-provocatrice. The feminist author Camille Paglia calls it “theft”, an image of an icon repurposed for modern times, but Gaga has morphed the brand with her own uncompromising, outlandish, androgynous style.
And for her millions of Little Monsters, she is not just an artist, a singer, or a wearer of impossible clothes, but their champion and heroine: the ultimate “self-professed freak”.

Adam Lambert Gets Advice From Gaga

Adam Lambert is on a fast track to becoming a pop icon. While the former “American Idol” singer already has natural talents that have rocketed his career, he admits that he had a great pep talk from the biggest pop icon today, Lady Gaga.

“She told me about the previous three years. She worked really, really hard before she made it. e told me there’s no glamour, you don’t get a lot of sleep, you don’t get a lot of stability in your social life – you just have to count on yourself and go for it. It was a good pep talk. And she was right,” he said in an interview with MTV UK.

If anyone knows best, it’s Gaga.

Lady Gaga and Giorgio Armani sign a partnership

Expect to see Lady Gaga in a lot more Armani from here on out. She has entered into a multimillion dollar partnership with the Italian designer who provided her Grammy outfits and "Alejandro" music video costumes.

Normally, celebrities who wish to be clad in Armani choose from the designer's runway collections. The designer's sleek style isn't exactly up Gaga's alley, however. His niece, Roberta, says:
It wouldn't be possible to give Gaga a look from the collection because she wears pieces of art. It's theatrical. The collaboration began last year when Giorgio's niece Roberta got in touch with Gaga's stylist Nicola Formichetti to ask about the singer's interest in wearing Armani for the Grammy Awards. Giorgio created three outfits for Gaga to wear, and instead of picking just one, she wore all three! The rest is history.
According to the WSJ, Gaga and Giorgio have yet to meet. There was little elaboration on what the multimillion-dollar deal entails, and Armani will be designing the costumes for Lady Gaga's next tour in December.

Lady GaGa is a role model for women around the world

So, what was the point of the meat outfit from the pop icon who seems to have launched a thousand theses? When Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta -- aka Lady Gaga -- strolled to the podium at the recent MTV awards wearing a couture mini-dress made entirely of raw meat, every cultural academic and student of critical theory sat up wondering: 'what?', 'why?' 'for whom?' and 'against what?'
While many recoiled in horror at the thought of all that raw meat slowly turning rancid in the heat, I reluctantly admitted that, as outfits go, it was infinitely preferable to the 'underage prostitute trying too hard' get-ups worn by other 'pop stars' of her generation.
I'm not quite sure whether she was slagging off vegetarians or meat eaters, (both conceivably could be offended) or getting a dig in at the whole concept of women's bodies as pieces of flesh, slaughtered and put on show for public consumption, or in a mood to shock Cher (to whom she handed her 'meat bag') -- or perhaps all three.
According to the lady herself, it was a ruse to get attention for the 'don't ask, don't tell' discriminative policy towards gays and bisexuals in the American Army.
"If we don't stand up for what we believe in . . . if we don't fight for our rights, pretty soon we're going to have as many rights as the meat on our bones," said Gaga.

Adam Levine talks about Lady GaGa

Adam Levine, singer of Maroon 5 in an interview for OUT Magazine spoke about Lady Gaga. Check out the interview below:

Since the last record came out, the musical landscape has changed so much. A name that comes up a lot in the Out studio is Lady Gaga, and I really think she’s changed the musical landscape in a lot of ways — especially in America. But you’re saying that you guys really didn’t take into account what’s trendy or popular and just concentrated on doing what you do?

Gaga is the perfect example because people are definitely saying things like, “changed the face of music” and “avant-garde.” And I love what she does. I love the fact that she exists. It’s almost like, finally there’s a pop star who brings a little bit more weight to it. She’s weird. She’s a weird chick. She does weird shit. She dresses weird. Her music is slightly off. That’s awesome. I think that’s great for pop music because it’s been so safe up to this point, and I like that she’s nude all the time and weird and awesome and cool. Madonna was that way too. I know she gets that comparison a lot, but it’s true. She was pushing the envelope back in the day. She was doing the same thing that Gaga’s doing to a large extent. She has her own spin on it. That’s fantastic. I love subverting the new generation of pop music and all these really safe Disney kids. But no, I’m not going to try to sound like that because that would be weird. That would be even weirder than Lady Gaga herself if we just all of a sudden got really strange — because we’re not, that’s just not who we are. But she’s great, and there are very few things these days that are truly innovative and forward-thinking or at least different. Goddamn, everything’s just so generic. I like things that shake shit up.

Ne-Yo interested to collaborate with Gaga

Ne-Yo says making music with Lady Gaga would be “intriguing”.
The R&B star has collaborated with some of the music industry’s most talented women, including Rihanna and Beyoncé Knowles, although his latest goal is to work with Lady Gaga.
The singer says he isn’t entirely sure what their duet would sound like though, as she is better known for dance music and he prefers hip-hop beats.
“I have no idea! That’s kind of the intriguing thing that I have no idea what that song would sound like,” he told MTV.
“Like, would I jump into her world? Would I pull her into mine?”
Ne-Yo says that whatever ends up happening, the result will be very interesting, and he even suggested a television company film the pair as they make a hit together because he thinks it would make compelling viewing.
“I don’t know, but I feel like it would be interesting to see. Maybe we should get a camera crew over when that happens,” he pondered.
Ne-Yo has been in touch with the pop star’s management, although he says it can be difficult speaking to Lady Gaga herself as she’s so busy working all the time.
“We’ve been talking to Gaga’s people about some stuff,” he explained.
“Gaga’s very difficult to get a hold of as of late, for obvious reasons. She’s very busy. We’ve been talking to her people about doing some stuff.”

VIDEO: RedOne about new Lady Gaga's album (Born This Way)

RedOne on Born This Way: "It's too precious for me to talk about it. It's crazy."

Why does Lady Gaga think her new album will "piss people off"?

Gaga's friend and producer RedOne, thinks it might be because the album is all about her liberation. "I think it's more of her freedom album. It's like freedom this album ... it's her album!" he said in an interview with MTV News.

However, he wasn't spilling much more than that. Gaga has implied that 'Born This Way' will be bitter and political. Whatever it is, we're sure that Mother Monster will amaze the world yet again with another award winning album.

"To be honest with you, I think that this album that she's making is too precious to talk about. When it comes out you'll hear and you'll make your choice," he said. "I think you're gonna love it. But I think it's too precious for me to talk about it. It's crazy."

RedOne said that as far as he knows there will be no Beyoncé-type collaborations on 'Born This Way'. He did say, thought, it will have an entirely new sound.

"I said with everything I do I want to shock people. Honestly, it's like whatever I do, I always want to shock people sonically, lyrically with the writer, anything that's gonna get the reaction," he said. "And so when it comes to her album, I mean honestly, I really think it's too precious, it's too good to talk about. I don't want to talk about it at all. I just want to save it. I'll let her talk about it. It's her. It's her presenting Gaga. I'm the producer, but she's the artist.

"Whatever happens later is going to happen," he said about which of his tracks might make the final cut. "I can't say I'm doing this or I'm doing that. It's a surprise. I want to leave it like that."

Lady GaGa’s VMA Meat Dress to become “Jerky”

Lady Gaga’s meat dress is among the most outrageous outfits the superstar has ever sported. She’s rocked cigarette-adorned shades, teetered on freakishly high Alexander McQueen heels and posed in flame-throwing undergarments, so topping herself in the what-is-she-wearing-now? department is definitely an achievement.
The songstress is rarely seen in the same thing twice, but an ensemble crafted from raw meat isn’t the type of look the wearer can keep around — without risking the smell of decaying beef in one’s closet — let alone bust the thing out for another flesh-frock-appropriate occasion.
Apparently, the dress hasn’t been tossed out or repurposed as tartare for some adventurous eater. After the beef dress’ headline-snagging debut at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, the look will be preserved and saved, presumably to provide inspiration for some far-out designer’s future sartorial creation.
“The dress will go through a process where it becomes a sort of ‘jerky’ and will be archived,” designer Franc Fernandez told E! Online.
However, don’t expect Gaga to bring back the look and shake up another awards show in, say, a jerky jumpsuit anytime soon. Fernandez recently explained to the MTV Style blog that, even though the dress may not decompose, it’s still just a single-use outfit.
“The meat dries out, rather than rotting. It becomes jerky,” Fernandez said. “But it shouldn’t be worn again.”
Just like Gaga should leave the jerky-fied dress in the past, Fernandez insisted he’s not going to hook up anyone else with carcass couture in the future.
“I think it’s just that — it’s just the meat dress,” Fernandez observed. “There’s not going to be meat dresses in the future. This was made for a specific purpose. It’s what it is.”

Nicole Scherzinger about GaGa and RedOne

Nicole Scherzinger, leader of the "Pussycat Dolls" as spoken in an interview for "X Magazine" about working with RedOne on her new album and she said a few comments about Lady GaGa:

“I’ve been working with RedOne, which is an honour. He’s an unbelievable producer and musician. He had made some amazing songs with Lady GaGa. Now, there is someone with the ‘x factor’.”
Asked whether her material tops GaGa’s ‘Bad Romance’, she said:

“Well, ‘Bad Romance’ is untouchable. I can’t compare my stuff to any of Lady GaGa’s songs because her songs are just classic and brilliant. I can’t touch GaGa or RedOne in that space, but I know that we’ve created something unique of our own.”

Lady Gaga's 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' Speech: The Full Transcript

Good afternoon. Can you all hear me?

I wrote this speech, this address, myself, I've spent 48 hours trying to find the perfect thing to say. My address to you today is called "The Prime Rib of America."

I do, solemnly swear, or affirm, that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States, against all enemies foreign and domestic, and I will bear true faith and allegiance to do the same, and I will obey the orders of the president of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the uniform code of military justice, so help me God.

Unless, there's a gay soldier in my unit, sir.

That is the oath taken every day by service members of the Armed Forces when they enlist to serve their country. Equality is the prime rib of America, but because I'm gay, I don't get to enjoy the greatest cut of meat my country has to offer. There are amazing heroes here today, whose stories are more powerful that any story I could tell, any fight I've ever fought, and any song that I could tell. I'm here because they inspire me. I'm here because I believe in them. I'm here because "don't ask, don't tell" is wrong. ... It's unjust, and fundamentally, it is against all that we stand for as Americans.

The Pentagon and senators such as John McCain have cited that the military is a unique institution, they have cited that homosexuals serving openly cause disruption to unit cohesion and morale. So what this means is, that they're saying that straight soldiers feel uncomfortable around gay soldiers, and sometimes it causes tension, hostility and possible performance inadequacies for straight soldiers who are homophobic. And even though some studies have been done to show an overwhelming and remarkable lack of disruption to units with gay soldiers, I will, for a moment, entertain this debate. As I am less concerned with refuting the fact that, in the workplace, in any workplace, there are tensions, there is even more of a possibility to have tension when you're fighting for your life. But I'm more concerned that John McCain and other Republican senators are using homophobia as a defense in their argument. As the nexus of this law, openly gay soldiers affect unit cohesion, like it's OK to discriminate or discharge gay soldiers because we are homophobic, we are uncomfortable, and we do not agree with homosexuality, and I can't focus on the field of duty when I am fighting. "We have a problem with you." Wasn't that the defense of Matthew Shepard's murderers? When they left him to die on a fence in Laramie, they told the judge, 'Oh, Matthew's gay, and it made us uncomfortable, so we killed him.' 'Oh, he's gay, it makes me uncomfortable, send him home.' As a side note, both Matthew Shepard's killers have life sentences in prison, and laws have since been passed that homophobia cannot be used as defense anymore in hate crimes in our judicial system.

Doesn't it seem to be that "don't ask, don't tell" is backwards? Doesn't it seem to be that, based on the Constitution of the United States, that we're penalizing the wrong soldier? Doesn't it seem to you that we should send home the prejudiced, the straight soldier who hates the gay soldier, the straight soldier whose performance in the military is affected because he is homophobic, the straight soldier who has prejudice in his heart, in the space where the military asks him to hold our core American values, he instead holds and harbors hate, and he gets to stay and fight for our country? He gets the honor, but we gay soldiers, who harbor no hatred, no prejudice, no phobia, we're sent home? I am here today because I would like to propose a new law; a law that sends home the soldier that has the problem. Our new law is called "if you don't like it, go home." A law that discharges the soldier with the issue, the law that discharges the soldier with the real problem, the homophobic soldier that has the real negative effect on unit cohesion. A law that sends home the homophobe, a law that sends home the prejudiced. A law that doesn't prosecute the gay soldier who fights for equality with no problem, but prosecutes the straight soldier who fights against it. Or perhaps that was a bit spun. ... To be fair, it sends home the straight soldier who fights for some freedoms, for some equalities, but not for the equality of the gay. He is the one — or she is the one — under this new proposition who will be discharged for disrupting the military. If you are not committed to perform with excellence as a United States soldier because you don't believe in full equality, go home. If you are not honorable enough to fight without prejudice, go home. If you are not capable of keeping your oath to the Armed Forces to defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic, and I will bear true faith and allegiance to do the same, unless there's a gay soldier in my unit, then go home.

Or, moreover, if you serve this country, is it acceptable to be a cafeteria American soldier? Can you choose some things from the Constitution to put on your plate, but not others? A buffet, perhaps. I'm not talking about citizens — we have a right to grieve, to protest, we have a right to this rally — but I'm talking about soldiers. Should the military be allowed to treat Constitutional rights like a cafeteria? In the military, is it acceptable to be a cafeteria American? What I mean to say is, should soldiers and the government be able to pick and choose what we are fighting for in the Constitution or who we are fighting for? I wasn't aware of this ambiguity in our Constitution. I thought the Constitution was ultimate. I thought equality was non-negotiable. And, let's say, if the government can pick and choose who they're fighting for, as exemplified in laws like "don't ask, don't tell," shouldn't we as Americans be made aware of this imbalance? Shouldn't it be made clear to the citizens of this country, before we go to war, shouldn't I be made aware ahead of time that some of us are just not included in that fight? "We're going to war for you and you and you and you, but not you, because you're gay." You can risk your life for this country, but in the end, you're not fighting for yourself; you're fighting for straight people. ... You are not included. You are not included when we say "equal." You are not even fully included when we say "freedom."

I'm here today in this park, in Maine, to say that, if the Senate and the president are not going to repeal this "don't ask, don't tell" policy, perhaps they should be more clear with us about who the military is fighting for, who our tax dollars are supporting and, ultimately, how much does the prime rib cost? Because I thought this was an "all you can eat" buffet. This equality stuff, I thought equality meant everyone. But apparently, for certain value meals, for certain civil rights, I have to pay extra, because I'm gay. I'm allowed to stand in a line next to other men and women, I'm allowed to get shot at and shoot a gun to protect myself and my nation, but when it's time to order my meal, when it's time to benefit from the freedoms of the Constitution that I protect and fight for, I have to pay extra. I shouldn't have to pay extra. I should have the ability, the opportunity, the right to enjoy the same rights — the same piece of meat — that my fellow soldiers, fellow straight soldiers, already have included in their Meal of Rights. It's prime rib, it's the same size, it's the same grade, the same cost, at wholesale cost, and it's in the Constitution.

My name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta. I am an American citizen, to the senate, to Americans, to Senator Olympia Snowe, Senator Susan Collins — both from Maine — and Senator Scott Brown of Massachusetts. Equality is the prime rib of America. Equality is the prime rib of what we stand for as a nation. And I don't get to enjoy the greatest cut of meat that my country has to offer. Are you listening? Shouldn't everyone deserve the right to wear the same meat dress that I did? Repeal "don't ask, don't tell" or go home. Go home. Thank you.

New message from Lady Gaga

Today was an enormous DISAPPOINTMENT, for myself, and for many young American people. Not only because Don’t Ask Don’t Tell was not repealed by our Senators, but moreover because LEGISLATIVE PROCEDURE is being abused to stop public business, public debates, from happening while America is watching. There was a debate today, we just didn’t get to watch it. Instead, it has been customary now for antiquated procedures and partisan politics to take precedence over debate, America’s needs, and today, sadly, over the needs of US troops. I will keep fighting, I will not give up. I am passionate about the rights of the LGBT Community and SLDN and I will continue to activate as many young people as I can, and encourage them to get politically involved in their future.

Mark Romanek would return to making music videos for GaGa

Since MTV’s Video Music Awards launched in 1984, a select few artists and directors have been honored with the Video Vanguard statuette in recognition of their unique contributions to the ever-changing art form. Mark Romanek is one of them. The director vaulted from working with the likes of Michael Jackson, Madonna and David Bowie to directing Robin Williams in 2002′s “One Hour Photo.”
By now, though, Romanek dubs himself “semi-retired” when it comes to directing music videos. That’s not hard to understand, considering how well things have gone for him in Hollywood. His latest feature, “Never Let Me Go,” stars Oscar nominees Keira Knightley and Carey Mulligan, and new Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield. Yet there are a few artists for whom Romanek would happily un-retire.
“If Radiohead called or Tom Waits called, I’d go running,” he told MTV News while promoting his new film at the Toronto Film Festival. “Or Gaga, actually.”
“Lady Gaga is still doing stuff in the old-school, ’90s way,” he explained. “The ‘Alejandro’ video was really impressive.”
That would be Gaga’s homage to Weimar-era Germany, all angular outfits and black-and-white moodiness. “[It is] about a woman’s desire to resurrect a dead love and who cannot face the brutality of her present situation,” the video’s director, Steven Klein, told MTV News in June. “The pain of living without your true love.”
Gaga wouldn’t be the first fierce female artist to collaborate with Romanek. He worked alongside Madonna for “Bedtime Stories” and Janet Jackson — and the King of Pop himself — for the seminal “Scream” video in 1995. And though Romanek hasn’t directed a video since Coldplay’s “Speed of Sound” in 2005, he’s certainly open to returning to that world for the “‘Alejandro” singer.
“She’s adventurous and visually stunning and takes chances,” he said. “Call me up!”

Only One Day Remains - Help Gaga in the Fight for Equality!!

Lady Gaga Speaks at 'Don't' Ask, Don't Tell' Rally -- Part 1 of 2

Little Monsters,

In just over 24 hours, the full Senate will determine whether "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" (DADT) repeal will move forward this year. Tomorrow at 2:15 p.m. EST the full Senate will vote to block a filibuster of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) which contains the repeal provisions.

Tuesday afternoon's vote will determine whether Senator John McCain's threat to mount a filibuster on the Defense bill will prevail. The consequences of failing to cut off the filibuster would be disastrous not just for repeal, but for our troops, who rely on critical funding that the annual Defense bill provides.

Call both your senators at the Capitol switchboard right now and urge them to vote to end the filibuster and move on to a real debate on the Defense bill. No spin. No more delays. This should be a bipartisan vote.

(202) 224-3121

Don't let opponents of open service hold up critical funding for our troops and prospects for repeal. Supporters of open service cannot let up. If you have already called your senators, call both of them again.

Call the Capitol switchboard and tell both your senators to follow the lead of Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin (D-MI) to stop the filibuster and begin debating passage of the Defense bill.

Speak up for all our service members today and spread the word to your friends: www.sldn.org/gaga

The critical hour has come. Help us get another step closer to the finish line.

Thank you.

Lady Gaga Gets Political

Since her appearance at the MTV VMAs, Lady Gaga has been on a mission to speak out against the U.S. Military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy.

In a video message posted to her official Youtube account, Gaga urges members of the U.S. Senate to vote next week in favor of the Defense Authorization Bill, a bill that would repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” The current policy forces gay and lesbian servicemembers to hide their homosexuality at the risk of being discharged. Gaga is asking fans to join the fight by calling their own states’ senators.

In the video, she demonstrates this by calling NY democrats Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand: “I have called both of the senators that operate in my district. I will not stop calling until I reach them and I can leave them this message:

‘I am a constituent of the senator; my name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, also known as Lady Gaga. I’m calling to ask the senator to vote with Senators Reid and Levin to repeal ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ and oppose John McCain’s shameless filibuster. We need to do this for our gay and lesbian soldiers, and finally repeal ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.’”

Lady GaGa about Nicola Formichetti

Lady GaGa has written a piece on what she thinks of her personal stylist Nicola Formichetti’s new position as creative director of Thierry Mugler.

“Blood pumps through Nicola’s veins like perfume and cigarettes. His brain throbs with misfit royalty, glamour as punk survival, attitude as liberation, style as revolution. THIERRY MUGLER has a way with legendary lifestyle and Nicola is just that: Epic Lifestyle, Freakdom, Gorgeous or Die, The “fuck” in future poetry, the street in High-Fashion. Nicola Formichetti is Fashion’s Freedom. I love him, my friend the genius, my collaborator, more than any piece of clothing or closet I possess. But don’t tell him I said that, he’ll die. He picked them all out”

Lady Gaga about her new album: "Born This Way"

Lady GaGa has opined that her new album will “change the world”.
The singer, who recently announced the LP’s title as Born This Way, believes her music has the ability to liberate people.
“The album is my absolute greatest work I’ve ever done and I’m so excited about it,” she told RWD Magazine.
“The message, the melodies, the direction, the meaning, what it will mean to my fans and what it will mean in my own life – it’s utter liberation.
“I knew I had an ability to change the world when I started to receive letters from fans: ‘You saved my life…’ ‘I’m gay and my parents threw me out…’
“My fans have related to me as a human being and as a non-human being – as a super-human person that I truly am.”
The ‘Alejandro’ star also said that she is not arrogant, insisting that music is the only thing she feels confident about.
She continued: “Everyone tells me I’m arrogant but my music’s the only thing I’ve got, so you’ll have to let me be confident about one thing. I suppose that’s what you can expect from the album: a lot of hit records that will piss people off.
“Beyoncé said: ‘Where the f**k do you get these ideas from?’ And I was like: ‘I don’t know Bee, it was just the way I was born’.”

Lady GaGa hopes her new album will be a rock crossover record that will “reach the masses”.
The singer, who recently debuted a track on tour called ‘You and I’ from the widely anticipated LP, said the track doesn’t reflect the sound of the whole record, but hopes it will have widespread appeal.
“I wrote the song just to write a beautiful song and I intend to put it on the new album, yes,” GaGa told RWD.
“But it’s not totally indicative of the new album sound; it’s just a really big rock and roll hit. I do have these hopes that it could be a great crossover record, so I’m going to put my producer’s hat on and get it to a place where I feel like it could reach the masses.
“It’s a beautiful, beautiful lyric and melody.”
GaGa also discussed her longevity in the music industry, claiming her Monster Ball tour has become a “religion” for her fans.
“I think that I’m, in the best kind of way, as irrelevant as I am relevant and it’s the timing of when the music came and when the show came. Also, the thing is, the show has become a religion for me and my fans.
“In that way it’s about so much more than the music, the clothes or me. It’s about the togetherness of music and culture.”
GaGa’s new album, Born This Way, is slated for release next year.

Lady Gaga supports Senator Harry Reid

Lady GaGa has voiced her support for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s vote on repealing the US military’s ban of openly gay and lesbian personnel.
The singer, who picked up eight MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, is a vocal supporter of gay rights, having previously tweeted about her opposition to Proposition 8.
Speaking on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the star blasted the current “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy which bans servicemen and women from being open about their sexuality.
The AP reports that following the appearance, Senator Reid’s staff exchanged tweets with GaGa. A vote on repealing the legislation is scheduled for next week, although a spokesman for the senator insisted that it had already been scheduled prior to GaGa’s talkshow appearance.
Responding to the announcement of a vote on Twitter, GaGa told followers: “God Bless and thank you HarryReid, from all of us, like you, who believe in equality and the dream of this country. We were BORN THIS WAY. (sic)”

Lady Gaga’s VMA's Interview: UNCUT

Katy Perry likes Lady Gaga's (fashion) statement

Several days after the VMAs, everyone is still talking about Lady Gaga's somewhat glam, somewhat bizarre get-ups for the show. With experts pretty much loving Gaga's Franc Fernandez meat dress, fellow pop star Katy Perry says that with someone like Gaga, it's about more than just the design: It's about what she's trying to say with it.

"I think costumes are just a natural extension. I don't think you can just have the costumes and not have anything else. The costumes are the bells and whistles and bells and whistles can be really fun, but you have to have the spine, and I think that with Gaga, she's got the spine and she's got the costume," Perry told MTV News. "So, it can coexist."

Perry is quick to point out that if you're a pop artist trying to go over-the-top without saying anything, then you're not doing it right. "With me, I have the spine and I have the costumes, so we can coexist," she said. "Some people that are just like, 'Look at me, I have something on my face or head' -- I don't want to be specific because I don't even know what I'm trying to say -- they're just not following through. I like all that theatrical stuff, but at the end of the day, I like to strip it all off and sit down with my guitar and write a song."

With all that in mind, Perry, who looked equally fab at the VMAs, says that she really loved one of Gaga's VMA looks in particular. "I think her outfits are very Lady Gaga. It's like so over-the-top," she said. "I thought the Alexander McQueen outfit was stunning. I was like, "Oh my god!" I love all that kind of symbolism that she had on her dress, and she made a statement with all the people next to her. I like the statement she made."
